Narrative Short-Film Video Briefs

## C01 — The lantern relay

**Use:** a small human action introducing a fictional world
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 21:9, 20 seconds
**Adjust:** harbor architecture and weather; retain the signal's cause and effect.

```text
Create a restrained coastal science-fiction short. A retired lighthouse keeper in an olive knitted coat stands on a stone balcony above a dark harbor, holding one rectangular amber lantern. No spacecraft or familiar franchise design.
00:00–00:06 — Begin behind the keeper at shoulder height. Track slowly toward the parapet as she places the lantern on its flat base. Wet stone reflects its light.
00:06–00:13 — She opens the lantern's metal shutter twice with her right hand. Each opening exposes the same steady flame; it is not an electrical strobe. Keep the camera on her side of the balcony.
00:13–00:20 — A single distant window answers with two warm pulses. She leaves the shutter open and rests her hands on the parapet. Hold the harbor view for three seconds.
LOCK: Same face, coat, lantern handle, balcony geometry and distant window position. Only the two visible light sources change.
AUDIO: Wind against masonry, shutter hinge, distant harbor water. No speech, score or foghorn.
AVOID: extra signals, floating lantern, futuristic skyline, new people, changing weather, written text, logos or watermark.
```

## C02 — A wall between rehearsals

**Use:** simultaneous split-screen story
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 16:9, 18 seconds
**Adjust:** instruments, but keep two rooms and one shared wall.

```text
Show two equal side-by-side panels throughout. Left: an adult cellist in a cream jumper rehearses in a modest room. Right: a young adult drummer in a blue shirt practices on a rubber pad in the neighboring room. These are different people and spaces.
00:00–00:06 — Locked medium views. The cellist plays a short original three-note phrase; the drummer taps an unrelated four-beat pattern. Neither looks toward the camera.
00:06–00:12 — The cellist stops and taps the shared wall gently twice. The drummer hears the two taps from the correct side, stops, then answers with the same rhythm on the wall.
00:12–00:18 — Both resume, now matching a quiet pulse. Each smiles privately. Keep the dividing line fixed and hold both frames.
LOCK: Bow stays in the cellist's right hand; two drumsticks remain visible. Preserve chair locations, wall orientation and window light.
AUDIO: One coherent mix, cello left and practice pad right, with muffled wall transmission. Original music only; no recognizable melody or speech.
AVOID: swapping rooms, overlapping bodies, teleporting instruments, asynchronous answering taps, captions, extra performers or watermark.
## C03 — The smallest opening night
**Use:** contained dialogue comedy
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 4:3, 15 seconds
**Adjust:** miniature scenery, not the joke's timing.
```text
A miniature theater maker in a charcoal apron sits at a workbench beside one adult friend in a red cardigan. A shoebox-size stage has a closed blue curtain. The maker holds a full-size pair of binoculars.
00:00–00:05 — Locked two-shot at bench height. The friend studies the tiny stage and asks in conversational English, exactly: "Where do I sit?"
00:05–00:10 — The maker silently slides a normal chair ten centimeters closer. Keep a full two-second pause, then pass the binoculars handle-first.
00:10–00:15 — The friend raises them and says exactly: "Excellent view." The miniature curtain opens a little through a visible pull cord. End before any performance starts.
LOCK: Two people, two chairs, one pair of binoculars, one stage. The stage stays miniature; do not reveal a full-size theater.
AUDIO: Chair scrape, cloth curtain, unprocessed close dialogue and room tone. No applause, laugh track or score.
AVOID: exaggerated expressions, shrinking people, extra lines, camera cuts during the handoff, text, brand marks or watermark.
```
## C04 — The reflection arrives late
**Use:** controlled magical realism
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 2:1, 18 seconds
**Adjust:** garment color; preserve the deliberate reflection delay.
```text
One adult museum guard in a navy uniform stands in a quiet gallery before a single floor-length mirror. Treat the mirror's behavior as the only impossible element in an otherwise natural scene.
00:00–00:06 — Locked three-quarter wide shot showing guard and full mirror. The guard lifts her left hand to straighten her collar. Her reflection remains still for one second, then repeats the same movement.
00:06–00:12 — She lowers her hand slowly and watches. The reflection again follows exactly one second later. Keep her face calm rather than frightened.
00:12–00:18 — She takes one small step away. The reflection raises a hand before she does; she notices and finally answers the gesture. Hold without a jump scare.
LOCK: Identical face, collar, hairstyle and gallery perspective in both versions. No other reflective surface or moving artwork.
AUDIO: Shoe contact and ventilation. No mirrored duplicate footsteps, dialogue, horror sting or music.
AVOID: unrelated reflection actions, extra people, morphing face, camera drift, broken glass, captions or watermark.
```
## C05 — A door left warm
**Use:** wordless character introduction
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 16:9, 15 seconds
**Adjust:** workshop craft; preserve the courteous action.
```text
Create a quiet evening short in a small bookbinding workshop. One older craftsperson in a blue linen apron is closing for the day. A younger apprentice is still sewing one book at a rear desk.
00:00–00:05 — Static wide view from the hallway. The craftsperson reaches for the main light switch and notices the apprentice's occupied hands.
00:05–00:10 — Without speaking, the craftsperson turns on the apprentice's task lamp first, then switches off the overhead lights. Show both actions and their lighting consequences in order.
00:10–00:15 — The craftsperson leaves the door slightly open. The apprentice briefly looks up, then returns to the same page. End on the warm pool of light within the darker room.
LOCK: The unfinished book, needle, thread path, lamp and door hinge stay in place. Preserve natural skin and modest workshop clutter.
AUDIO: Switch clicks, thread through paper, restrained footsteps and the door latch. No sentimental music or dialogue.
AVOID: magically lit lamp, extra books appearing, suddenly completed binding, pitch-black faces, title cards, logos or watermark.
```
## C06 — The red scarf cut
**Use:** an editorial match cut between distinct scenes
**Mode:** text to video · **Format:** 16:9, 16 seconds
**Adjust:** destinations; retain the red fabric and movement direction.
```text
Make a two-scene fictional travel short with exactly one visible editorial cut. It is a visual association, not a teleportation claim.
00:00–00:07 — In a cool city apartment, an adult woman folds a plain red scarf on a wooden table. Medium close view, natural window light. She lifts the folded scarf from left to right until it briefly fills the frame.
00:07 — Cut on that red fabric movement.
00:07–00:13 — In a warm rural guest room, the same woman lowers the same scarf onto a different table, completing the left-to-right gesture. Her coat is now off and lies visibly on a chair; the location change is intentional.
00:13–00:16 — Camera settles to reveal an open window and distant hills. She rests her hands on the table.
AUDIO: Apartment traffic cuts to gentle wind and insects at the edit. Fabric sound bridges the cut; no music or narration.
LOCK: Preserve face, scarf weave, fold and hand orientation across the cut.
AVOID: intermediate morphing scenery, additional cuts, changing scarf color, travel logos, generated location labels or watermark.
